[guide-user] Is there any chance someone will pick up the guide 9 update?

Dear Fellow Guide Lovers,

I could not agree more. When I finally could no longer link my mount with Guide, I purchased TheSky Serious Astronomer to run the mount. Which leads to a story that may make you smile.

I was using TheSky and noted a star that was not on my image nor was it in Guide or even SIMBAD. I brought this to the attention of the Bisque brothers and one of them responded by saying that “Oh, that is from an error in the Guide Star Catalog and if you turn that off, you will not have that problem.” So, I turned it off and then there were hardly any stars displayed at all. I complained again and Mr Bisque suggested I upgrade to a more expensive version of TheSky. Not being willing to throw good money after bad, I declined. I mentioned that Guide 9.1, which costs a fraction of what TheSky costs, did not have any of those issues. And you could move Guide to a different field without having to move the scope. The only way you can do that in TheSky is to disconnect and then reconnect. You begin to wonder if these guys ever used a telescope!

So, I use Guide 9.1 to identify stars, frame my images, etc. The other night, I found my star in Guide, identified the SAO number, and then used that ID in TheSky to move the telescope to its location. It is not elegant but better than trying to look at the field in TheSky.

So, if someone is able to take over the maintenance of Guide, I will happily pay for the upgrade.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi to all.....I totally agree on this; the most practical and user friendly program out there and to let it just waste away from lack of updates.
Thanks to Bill for creating and maintaining this for all these years, but hopefully he will see this and provide a suitable program guru with the necessary tools to maintain.

GOOD IDEA.

I use Guide since th version 3. I never find a better planétarium software which give us so much information.

Hello;
I've been a long-time user of Guide 9 and would like to know if there's
any possibility that someone could take over the work of periodically
updating this wonderful computer planetarium at least once a year.
Would anyone have access to the source code so I can resume this update
work?
Or could Bill Gray provide the source code for the Guide 9 program so
someone can resume this periodic update work?
Sincerely;
Joaquin Tapioles
